Shopping Centre Activations

Shopping centre activations

A shopping centre is the only place where the audience already arrives intending to buy

We run brand activations in shopping centres: wheels and games in the central square, sampling, workshops and experiences, with equipment adapted to indoor spaces and all the documentation management requires.

Activating in a shopping centre carries an advantage no other environment offers: the visitor is already disposed to buy. You do not have to convince them to leave home or to pay attention to a brand; you only have to appear in their path with something that interests them. That difference in context explains why conversion from a shopping centre activation usually beats a street action by a clear margin.

The trade-off is that the space is not yours. Every centre has its management, its occupation rules, its load-in schedules and its documentation requirements, and all of it shapes what can be built. We work with those constraints routinely and account for them from the proposal onwards: equipment that fits through service doors, no floor anchoring, compatible power draw and respect for evacuation routes.

On format, what works best depends on the centre's audience. In centres with heavy family traffic, a children's activity pulls in the parent and the shopping trolley. In more urban, younger centres, fast instant-win mechanics and digital experiences that generate content perform better. And in seasonal campaigns, specific Christmas or Halloween set design is worth more than any game.

One point often neglected: linking to purchase. An activation open to everyone generates participation but not sales; one requiring a minimum spend receipt from the centre generates fewer participations and far more value for the owners and tenants, who are the ones deciding whether the campaign repeats.

An already-willing audience

Shopping centre visitors come intending to buy. You do not have to convince them of anything, only appear in their path with something of interest.

Adapted to the centre's rules

Equipment fitting through service doors, no anchoring, compatible power and respected evacuation routes. We send dimensions and technical sheets for management approval.

Can be linked to a receipt

Entry on a minimum-spend receipt lowers participations and raises value considerably for the owners, who decide whether the campaign repeats.

How we set it up

  1. Tell us the centre

Available location, square metres, campaign, dates and whether there is a purchase link.

  2. We propose the activation

Mechanic, equipment, staffing and estimated participations, at a closed price.

  3. We submit documentation

Insurance, certificates, technical sheets and a floor plan for centre management.

  4. We build out of hours

Build before opening or after close, activation during trading hours and clearing away without disruption.

Formats and ideas that work

  • Prize wheel in the central square with a purchase receipt
  • Product sampling at the main entrance
  • Branded children's workshop with personalised materials
  • Photo booth with a campaign frame beside the food court
  • Digital game with a ranking accumulated over the campaign
  • Seasonal set design with a photo wall and an activity
  • Product trial with specialist staff
  • Weekend prize draw with a drum and a public presentation

Not every weekend is the same

In a shopping centre, the difference in footfall between a campaign Saturday and an ordinary one is enormous, and it is not always factored into planning. Activating on the sales weekend, the one before Christmas or back-to-school weekend multiplies participations at no extra cost, simply because there are twice as many people in the centre.

So when dates are flexible, the first thing we look at is the centre's commercial calendar rather than the brand's. Moving an activation by a week is usually worth more than increasing the budget, and it is a recommendation we always make even when it means delaying the campaign.

Frequently asked questions

Who authorises the activation?

Centre management. We prepare all the documentation they usually request, insurance, certificates, technical sheets and a floor plan, and submit it in advance so they can review it without pressure.

Can it be built during trading hours?

The build usually cannot: it happens before opening or after close, with accredited staff and access coordinated with security. The activation itself runs during trading hours.

How much floor space is needed?

It depends on the format. A wheel with staff takes four or five square metres; a children's workshop, fifteen to twenty-five. We give exact dimensions before requesting the location from the centre.

Can you cover several centres in the same chain?

Yes, and it usually prices better. We unify equipment, briefed staff and reporting, so you receive comparable data from each centre rather than loose reports.

How is the result measured?

Participations by day and slot, prizes handed out and, where purchase is linked, validated receipts. It is the information that later justifies the campaign to the owners and the tenants.
