Summary
Hawaiian dance or Hula is an original dance from Hawaii accompanied by chants to depict events of the original Hawaiian tribes.
In our Hawaiian dance show for companies we mix the original dance with plenty of fire using different juggling and elegance props.
If the venue does not allow the use of fire we can also adapt it with just the choreography, faithful to Hawaiian dances.
What is the Hawaiian Dance for Events?
The Hawaiian Dance or Hula was originally created in the Hawaiian islands by Polynesians.
Hula was a kind of dance accompanied by chants; there is a great variety of steps depending on the chant being performed, and depending on which movements are made, a different aspect of the environment is being acted out, such as the movement of the hands to represent different movements of nature like the wind, the sun or the sea.
This dance has some basic hip and foot steps which, complemented by the chant, produce a complete, original and very unique dance from Hawaii.
It should be made clear that Hula is not the only Polynesian dance; many Polynesian islands have their own dances, and Hula is specific to the Hawaiian islands.
Today there are different variants of the Polynesian Hula dance and dancers, mainly the ancient Hula also called Kahiko, and Hula auana influenced from the 19th century by Western influence.
Within the types of Hawaiian dance there are the so-called Olapa and the Ho'o-paa.
The Olapa are those who only dance and do not have as much knowledge as the Ho'o-paa, who dance, sing and have knowledge of the instruments.
In our shows we only perform Olapa, since the music and chants are provided by the music we play at the event venue; to perform a Ho'o-paa, original instruments would be needed, which are not easy to obtain nowadays.
When selecting a show, it is advisable to also choose a game for the event, so that guests can take part.
The Hawaiian dance performed at corporate events, entertainment or family parties does not include special ceremonies, but it nevertheless remains faithful to its basic steps with hip movement and connection with nature; it is a perfect idea to share with guests, who will be left amazed by the mix of dance and Fire in the Hawaiian dance.
