What is the Basketball arcade?
A basketball arcade is an electronic amusement game that simulates the sport of basketball in a fun and accessible way. These arcade machines are commonly found in game rooms, entertainment centres and arcades. Players must throw balls at a basketball hoop with the aim of scoring and accumulating as many points as possible in the shortest time.
Basketball arcades offer simple gameplaythat is nonetheless challenging, as they require skill and precision. In many versions of these games, players control a ball launcher using levers or buttons, and have a limited number of balls or a time clock to score as many times as possible.
Some of the most common features of arcade basketball games include:
- Score display that updates with every basket.
- Time clock that increases the difficulty by limiting playing time.
- Multiplayer modes, allowing several people to play at the same time or take turns.
- Additional challenges, such as balls of different sizes or speeds.
How long does a game last?
The length of a game on a basketball arcade machine generally ranges from 1 to 3 minutes per round, but this can be adjusted depending on several factors, such as the specific machine setup and the type of event it is used at. These machines are designed to offer a quick, dynamic experience that lets players enjoy the thrill of shooting hoops in a short period of time, encouraging direct competition and keeping the game moving.
How does the double basketball hoop work?
The operation of a basketball arcade is simple, but it is designed to be entertaining and challenging. Below we explain how a basketball arcade game works step by step:
1. Starting the game: The player starts by inserting coins or credits into the arcade machine. Depending on the model, some machines also allow payment by credit card or a modern payment system, such as QR code or electronic payments.
2. Controls: Once the game is activated, the player uses the machine's controls to throw the basketballs at the hoop. The controls may vary depending on the machine model, but generally include:
- A button or lever to trigger the release of the balls.
- Motion sensors or a touch screen in more modern versions, which detect the movement of the hand or finger to throw the balls.
On more advanced machines, the player can adjust the power and the direction of the throw using a lever mechanism or sensors.
3. Throwing and scoring: The goal is to score as many baskets as possible within the time limit or with a set number of balls. The arcade machines have a score-keeping system that records how many balls have been scored. Some machines allow you to earn extra points if you score in a harder hoop or in a basket that changes height or position.
4. Time and balls: The player has a limited time (usually between 30 seconds and one minute) or a specific number of balls (usually between 5 and 10) to score. Each time the player throws a ball, the ball counter or the time clock is updated on the screen.
- If the player scores a basket, the score goes up.
- If they miss, the ball is returned or not counted.
At the end of the time or after throwing all the balls, the final score is shown on the screen.
5. Scoreboard and difficulty levels: Basketball arcades have a screen that shows the player's score , which encourages competitiveness. Some machines allow the player to compete against a high score ranking or take on other players in multiplayermode.
As the game progresses, the difficulty increases, incorporating features such as:
- Moving hoops that change position.
- Balls that fall faster or more slowly.
- Shorter time limits for making throws.
6. Multiplayer modes: Some versions of the basketball arcade allow two or more people to play at the same time. Each player has their own playing area and launcher, competing to see who scores the most baskets in the set time. Each player's scores are displayed separately and at the end the best performance is compared.
7. End of the game: The game ends when the time or the available ballsrun out. The final score is shown on the screen and, if the score is high enough, the player can win a prize or a credit bonus to keep playing.

9. Camps and Youth Programmes: For summer camps, youth activities or school programmes, the basketball arcade can be an excellent addition to keep children and teenagers active and entertained. It helps develop coordination and teamwork skills in a fun way.
How many players can play?
The number of players who can take part in a basketball arcade depends on the specific machine model and the features it offers. However, there are two common modes found on most basketball arcade machines:
1. Single-player mode: On most basketball arcade machines, the game is designed for players to take part individually. In this mode, a single player has the chance to throw balls at the basketball hoop for a limited time or with a set number of balls. The goal is to get as many points as possible. This format is the most common in game rooms and arcades. It is perfect for those looking for a personal challenge or who want to improve their basketball aim.
2. Multiplayer mode: Some basketball arcade machines also offer the option to play in multiplayer mode, usually allowing two players (although there are models for more). In this mode, each player has their own hoop and throwing area. Both players compete to see who scores more baskets in the set time. This format is ideal for social events or competitions among friends, offering a more dynamic and competitive experience.

How long does set-up take?
The set-up time needed for the basketball arcade will depend mainly on how easy it is to carry it, dismantled, from our vehicle to the place where it is to be installed. Once the arcade is in place, approximately 15 minutes are needed to complete the installation. So, adding up carrying and set-up time, around 30 minutes in total may be needed, although this varies depending on the accessibility between the vehicle and the installation area.
It is essential that there are no narrow spaces
Is staff needed for this game?
If the basketball arcade is hired for a private event, such as a party, tournament or corporate event, having staff can be useful for several reasons:
- Installation and set-up: Some larger or more complex machines may require installation and technical adjustments.
- Supervision: To make sure everything works properly and that participants are familiar with how the game works.
- Maintenance: In case of a breakdown or technical problem, having staff in charge allows problems to be solved quickly and prevents the game from stopping.
Possible customisation?
The customisation of the arcade sides covers several important modifications, both structural and aesthetic. This includes adjustments to the design of the side supports, as well as the addition of visual elements such as logos or team colours. In addition, customising the sides can improve the stability, safety and functionality of the hoop, adapting it better to the needs of training, competition or exhibition.
How to book the game?
Time needed to book the basketball arcade
To book, a 50% deposit in advance is required. We recommend booking early to secure your preferred date. If you would like to customise the arcade, you will need a minimum of 2 weeks for the necessary changes, so plan ahead!
To make the payment we need all the information about the event and your tax details so we can invoice you if you want an invoice. The main event details we need are the following
- Arcade hire set-up time/day
- Event start time/day
- Name of the contact on our arrival for set-up
- Phone number of the contact on our arrival for set-up
- Exact address of the event
- Tax details if an invoice is required
Cancellation Policy
100% of the booking deposit will be refunded if the whole event is cancelled due to force majeure. If it is not due to force majeure, the following points apply.
- The 50% amount will be kept for a future event, either for the basketball arcade or any other United Events product.
- If the event is cancelled on the same day and our crew have already loaded the product and started transporting it to the event venue, the deposit cannot be refunded because the work has already begun.
- If the product is cancelled for the event and we had already booked a hotel because the event is in Madrid or 3 hours or more from Barcelona, we will have to charge at least the accommodation and any item we have bought for that day that we cannot return or have to throw away.
- If you want to swap one product for another for the same event day, there is no problem as long as no graphics have been customised; otherwise, the price of the new graphics for the new product will have to be added.
Transport, Delivery and Installation
The prices quoted include installation of the arcade and its transport as long as the venue is within 30 km of Barcelona; beyond that, we charge a per-kilometre supplement for both the outward and return journeys.
If the journey is more than 3 hours, our crew must stay one night in a hotel in the event city, so we would need to charge 1 night of accommodation and meal allowances for the day of transport and the following day for the return.
