What is a rockola, jukebox, gramola or sinfonola?

A Rokola, Jukebox, Sinfonola or Gramola is a retro music player mostly from the 1960s and 70s that could play vinyl records in a semi-automatic way.

Jukeboxes were normally found in cafes or restaurants in the United States, and customers could choose the record they wanted with coins or even banknotes.

Their designs were usually a metre and a half tall with a rounded top and a variety of lights all over the antique rockola machine. Although in the 1940s the first Rokola models were very simple wooden boxes with a few buttons to select songs, it was in the early 1960s that more detail and lighting began to appear.

At our events we provide Rokolas for hire with more functions while respecting the design of a legendary retro jukebox, with the possibility of adding other playback systems such as USB, Bluetooth or CD.

Professional jukeboxes of the 1960s were also characterised by a button panel for selecting songs. Our Rokolas for hire also include these button panels as decoration, but they also incorporate an LCD screen to choose the mode and the songs.

The model of our retro rockola for hire is more similar to the legendary Wurlitzer Rock-Ola 1015 and Rokolas 1422

Some other antique rockola models

  • Rock-Ola model 1413 Premier, 1422, 1426 and Princess
  • Wurlitzer Model 750, 750E, 800, 850, 950, 1080, 1080-A, 1100
  • AMI Rowe Model A and Top Fighting
  • Seeburg Cadet and M100A
  • Gabel Kuro

As a curious fact, the name rockola is an evolution of the original name Rock-Ola given by the inventor of the device, David Cullen rockola.

Is the Rokola easy to operate at parties?

The Rock-ola player is very intuitive and easy to use. When the technicians install the machine at the party they then explain how it works, and also whether auxiliary outputs need to be installed to connect it to.

The Rokola has different functions, and the device you want to use can be selected on an LCD.

From our games company for events we recommend using USB and having a USB drive ready with all the songs you want to play so that they play automatically.

What kind of events is the rockola usually hired for?

Rokola hire can be requested for any party where music playback is needed, since aesthetically it dresses any event very well, but it adds even more to retro parties, 20s, 60s, 90s or themed events.

The 80s rockola has quite a lot of power, so it can cover a room of 50 people well. For more people we recommend adding amplifiers, although it can also be placed at the event as decoration with the music controlled from another point.

What is the difference between Rokola, Gramola, Sinfonola or Jukebox?

The origin of the word rockola comes from its creator David Cullen rockola, who gave rise to the word Rock-Ola, and the device was later called Rocola or Rokola.

Gramola, sinfonola or Juke-box are synonyms of rockola, so there is no difference in referring to it by any of these words.

Many people also spell the word as Rokola but this is used in Latin American countries where the pronunciation is the same for that word.

After installation, can the rockola be moved easily?

The rokola hire setup consists of the machine itself and a 50cm platform to raise the player so it looks nicer. If you want to move it from one point to another there is no problem, but the machine must be moved by 2 people since it weighs approximately 50kg and is also very delicate.

Always bear in mind that a standard power socket must be less than 1.5 metres away.

Customised rockola hire (Branding and client logos)

The look of the unpersonalised machine is beautiful thanks to its curves and lighting, but it can also be customised by placing the company logo on the sides. The space available for customisation is as follows.

Height: 40cm
Width: from 20cm to 100cm

You do not need to use 100% of the space; we recommend a width of around 20 cm.

We do not use stickers or vinyls to customise our hire machines, we use quality PVC for matt prints and fix it to the machines.

If you wish to customise the rockola hire for parties you would need to have the high-quality logos at least two weeks in advance so we can arrange shipping and PVC printing.

Rockola or Jukebox Hire Booking

Time needed to book

Rokola hire can be booked one day in advance if we have it available and no customisation is needed. To guarantee the availability of the professional jukebox for your party we recommend booking one month in advance with a 50% deposit.

How to book the Jukebox hire in Barcelona

Both in Barcelona and outside Barcelona, 50% is required as a booking deposit and the remaining 50% on the day of the event.

You can also pay 100% at the time of booking the machine.

For invoicing the product, you need to send us the following data by email:

  • Time/Day of setup of the Jukebox for decoration and playback
  • Time/Day of the start of the wedding / party / fair / event
  • Name of the contact for arrival at the event
  • Phone number of the contact for arrival at the  event
  • Exact location of the event
  • Tax details for the invoice (Address, Tax Number, Legal Name)

Once we have received all the information, we will send the invoice by e-mail, which will include the bank account number for the bank transfer, and the invoice number must be entered as the payment reference.

Event cancellation

Once the booking is made we block that product so as not to hire it to other companies that need it that day, so if the event cannot be moved to another day, 50% of the booking already paid will be lost.

100% will be refunded of the booking if it rains and the installation was to be outdoors, or if the whole event is cancelled.

Price to hire a Rokola

To quote the price of hiring a jukebox for decoration or for music playback, we need to consider the following points.

  • Hire of the Jukebox (per day)
  • Location where you want to hire the Jukebox.

If you hire several games for events outside Barcelona we can also offer a discount for multiple games; ask for price and discount.

Do you hire Juke-box outside Barcelona?

Yes, most of the products we install are in Madrid and Barcelona, but we also usually go to the Basque Country, Andalusia, Navarre or Aragon, for example.

Ask about availability in your city. :)
